Inspiration: Johnny Cash

April 13th, 2010

I was listening to “Hurt” & “I hung my head” for the 8th time today when I got really inspired by the songs. Maybe its my personality type that draws me to these dark, cynical songs. I love it. Dark, grimy, yet sophisticated in a crazy way. What a rare combo. The one and only.johnny-casheejohnny-cas122hjohnny-cashjohn-and-junecash-rs-cover

You’ve got to know your limitations. I don’t know what your limitations are. I found out what mine were when I was twelve. I found out that there weren’t too many limitations, if I did it my way.” - Johnny Cash

Is this guy for real?

I have a feeling that its a Japanese Borat.

Either way, its inspiring. I have a new method for selecting cameras.

Le Homme Room

April 5th, 2010

If you’ve newly discovered HomeRoom than you might not know that we got our start making one of a kind hoodies and goods for our beloved customers.  Even though its been 3 years since we stopped doing custom hoodies i still get  a handful of requests every month. One of our long time customers had ordered emailed me about one and  couldn;t say no.

We stick by our commitment to making sure that its a perfect fit. Once he recieved his hoodie he made comments on what he needs adjusted and we are more than happy to make sure that its tailor fitted on him..even if its via air mail.

Quick snap before we shipped it off

you might remember the first time you saw this hoodie…i found the fabric for the hoodie above a few months ago when i was doing some cleaning.

I had only a few hours to check out the scene at the trade show.l1110024

Mr. Bendicto is one of the unsung heroes of fashion. Behind every brand that you love there’s someone like Mr. Bendicto keeping it all together behind the scenes. l1110030

There’s always a new trade show every season. They usually don’t make it past a 2nd season. This one looks like it has some legs to it.l1110033l1110037

While this one is on its way out. Magic is becoming too much like a college party than a trade show.l1110038

The only good thing about Magic was running into former intern K. YEE!l1110041

I shot over to Capsule Show for an hour before I jolted down the hallway and cut 10 people in the taxi line, to barely make my flight.

Maybe you do…maybe you don’t remember our former East Coast sales rep and all around great guy; Alex James. Well he has his own footwear line now and he is killing it! I just got my pairs in the mail today.l1110050

Road trip 5 on the year.

March 22nd, 2010

One foggy morning i woke up to a big amount of nothing to do. Ever since we stopped doing wholesale to retailers (and focused on direct), i’ve had more time to focus on design.  I decided to take an inspiration trip down California to see whats going on.picture-2

4 years ago i emailed this legendary designer. Ever since he’s been one of the coolest guys around; Alyasha Moorel1100879

I geeked out on this RRL patch… Someone sits there, with a smoldering branding iron and applies it to the raw suede. That’s rare and expensive.  It adds about $12 to the pants retail cost.l1100885

My Good friend Kiya from SelfEdge and Johan (photoshop went hay-wire and stuck a HMRM logo on Kiya’s flathead shirt).l1100896

I partied with Tom from Sugarcane a year back in vegas , good to keep that party going with him in LA….and Mrs. SelfEdge. l1100897

I shot down to silver lake for dinner with my old office neighbor Brian Heslop. He is the west coast sales rep for the original sneaker company (keds, pro keds and some of your other favorite companies). Good to catch up with homies and famiy.l1100906

Jun Seba

March 21st, 2010

I’ve been under a rock….I just heard some bad new about 5 mins ago.

I’m sure every single person has seen hip hop influence our culture in the last 25 years. No other movement to date has spread as fast. In the midst of hip hop’s morphogenesis of the golden mid to late 90’s, the true heads lost hope. In early 2000’s a man named Jun Seba aka Nujabes came on the International Hip Hop scene and gave the true hip hop heads something to nod their domes to. I regretfully just found out that He had passed away from a car accident in Japan.

Known for his pure signature sound, Nujabes spread quickly in the USA with no marketing or push. The crisp sound of his music created a word of mouth buzz. Within 5 years of starting his career every hip hop geek respected and appreciated what the Japanese hip hop scene was putting out. RIP Jun Seba.

esoteric agenda

February 28th, 2010

In the blance of power between, good and evil, or evil vs evil, or good vs good . There is a fight of strategy between the oppositions. Most people are comfortable and never see them selves as the sheep that are being hearded.  Most don’t ever think they are a part of what is called “the blind leading the blind”.  In order for one side to win, they must have thee ultimate influence over the majority. They can fool everyone else, but they won’t fool me.

This isn’t a conspiracy theory..this is the fashion industry.

There are tons of ways to describe Jean Michel Basquiat. I’ve always looked at him as the person that bridged street art -and high society. What he did for  street style, is bigger than his art. I was just a pup when he died, wish i got to meet him.

Enjoy

on to the next one…

February 9th, 2010

As we are in preparation for moving into our 4th office space in 4 years I had to go through and sort out what to keep and what to throw away/donate. In the process I found my old college notes books with these words written on almost every note book. “Trust the process not the product”. I guess even at an early age I was obsessed with how things are made.
