Happy TWENTY-TEN

December 31st, 2009

l1100200

I get very few vacations where I can put the emails aside and turn my phone off. This is definitely one of them. House on the lake, a snowboard, a lift ticket and some good people. Happy Twenty-Ten!l1100202l1100204l1100205l1100206l1100218l1100241l1100249l1100251l1100256

Roseville

December 31st, 2009

Sorry for the lack of updates. The blog has been down for some maintenance work. Now everything is fixed and we will start posting everyday again.

I was in Sacramento/ Roseville over the holiday weekend. It was my first time experiencing this ghostly restaurant that i always see on TV but, never in person; Red Robin. Its like a unicorn. Now if i can find a Sonic Burger too. Then i won’t think they’re making commercials for places that don’t exist.

And here’s one for kicks

l1100187

Also the next day in SF I caught up with my Bud Jess aka Yosh aka (fatlace/wtforks/adventures of yoshi) We met 4 years ago and 3 years ago she moved to NYC (that was sad). I do believe that  Yoshi is one of the few people that knows me well. Even when we don’t talk for a year, we can pick up right where we left off. People like her are hard to come by. We will be seeing each other more often in the coming months.

Did i mention shes great at creating new style. This girl has no limits!l1100188

My Top 5, 2009: Most inspirational

December 26th, 2009

5. Humor mixed with product design.

Its funny unless you know someone that’s been stabbed in the head.

bookofjoe_was_here

4. Resurgence of the nuclear family style from the 50’s.

Whether you like the tweedy look or you like the more stream lined look (i.e Made Men). I can assure you that this look will be popping up everywhere in the next 2 years.

picture-233. Resurgence of old world and 50’s modern illustration.

Lets get down to the basics of modern design right? The progressive illustrations can only be taken so far unless there is a new technology invented, to give a base to new ways of thinking and designing.

112909_mccormick120409_focus_friday2. Saturation of  color in photography.

Life gets boring sometimes, why not make it look cooler.

1. Faith, hope and the wise men that came before us.

Quotes from Oscar Wilde to be exact.

“Success is a science; if you have the conditions, you get the result.”

MY TOP 5, 2009: Jackets

December 22nd, 2009

5. Wings and Horns

My Favorite non American line that makes classic North Western gear. Operating out of the CYC factory  in Vancouver, Wings and Horns simple precision is of inspiration and beauty.  I have met the team behind Wings and Horns and I can say that this line is 100% authentic; luxury meets practicality.

4. Junya Watanbe COMME des GARCONS

Once you get to understand the genius that is Junya Watanbe you can understand why this jacket is so spacial. This Jacket is a remake of 70’s North Western style gear. Reinterpreted through his mix match of textiles and styles from that era, to create this wearable college.

3. Rick Owens

Do i even have to say anything?

picture-22

2. Oydn Vovk

Our Friend Austin made an impact on many people this year with his slim fit leather silhouettes. Which is something the i feel has been lacking in fashion. Being slim I can appreciate the fit and understanding design i can appreciate that as well. As always in-house made is better then anything else. Odyn Vovk is an example of that teaching.

1. HomeRoom

Typically when i design something i sample it and wear it for 3 months to figure out what I missed to make it perfect. I usually have one or two changes before production. With this Jacket there were no changes needed. It was born perfect. Even Super Future thought so.

Inspiration for this week

December 18th, 2009

*Take the extremes with a grain of salt

Lately i’ve been inspired by a lot of dark’s. But, i still like the clean and preppy look. I am going to figure out a way to make all of these styles become cohesive into one with a young mans flavor to it. emilyeisen2picture-21

I love how woman’s clothing drapes. There is a way to make it look masculine you know.

How’s that one x-mas song go???

December 17th, 2009

On the first day of x-mas my true love gave to me…

…okay, I don’t know the lyrics to the song, but i do know that you wined up with 30 birds and some drummers. Well, what the heck are you gonna do with all of that?

So we teamed up with our good friends Mark, Yoshi and Courtney at Fatlace to give away one real present, that you would use! ll-giveaway-01-homeroom

You Are Self Sustainable

December 16th, 2009

We each have the choice in any setting to step back and let go of the mind-set of scarcity. Once we let go of scarcity, we discover the surprising truth of sufficiency. By sufficiency, I don’t mean a quantity of anything. Sufficiency isn’t two steps up from poverty or one step short of abundance. It isn’t a measure of barely enough or more than enough. Sufficiency isn’t an amount at all. It is an experience, a context we generate, a declaration, a knowing that there is enough, and that we are enough.

In our relationship with money, it is using money in a way that expresses our integrity; using it in a way that expresses value rather than determines value. Sufficiency is not a message about simplicity or about cutting back and lowering expectations. Sufficiency doesn’t mean we shouldn’t strive or aspire. Sufficiency is an act of generating, distinguishing, making known to ourselves the power and presence of our existing resources, and our inner resrouces. Sufficiency is a context we bring forth from within that reminds us that if we look around us and within ourselves, we will find what we need. There is always enough.

I am not suggesting that there is ample water in the desert or food for the beggards in Bombay. I am saying that even in the presence of genuine scarcity of external resources, the desire and capacity for self-sufficiency are innate and enough to meet the challenges we face. It is precisely when we turn our attentions to these inner resources – in fact, only when we do that – that we can begin to see more clearly the sufficiency in us and available to us, and we can begin to generate effective, sustainable responses to whatever limitations of resources confront us. When we let go of the chase for more, and consciously examine and experience the resources we already have, we discover our resources are deeper than we knew or imagined. In the nourishment of our attention, our assets expand and grow.

edit* Why did i decide to put this post up??

From time to time i hear people say “you guys are doing it! Living out your dream” But, they have no idea how tough times can get. This post above is about the rough times. Every successful person that i have been fortunate to encounter in the past 4 years have all had rough patches in there life, whether they were put on the shelf at their record company or they didn’t have the money to produce their designs. Everyone has overcome obstacles. If you haven’t been eating ramen and couch surfing while trying to juggle your dream, you fail to relaize that it is all a part of your goal. You must get down to the point where u have depleted all your resource to truly have the drive and hunger for success. You then discover how talented you truly are. If your down there already because you followed your dream. You’re a few steps away form success. Its true. Never give up. When good things happen, they never stop. Then you will truly have your dream.

Namu

December 15th, 2009

l1100121

I heard about Namu when my child hood friend Misako started working there (see above). Under executive chef and owner Dennis Lee (see above) they have made Namu into one of the best up and coming restaurants to dine in SF. Yesterday we spent our weekly HomeRoom dinner at Namu. Ivy and I have been coming here since they opened. We’ve made it a point to try everything on the menu over the year. Even though the menu is constantly changing. The thing the I love about Namu is their commitment to only using locally grown and sustainable ingredients.l1100127l1100126

Even our dear friends from acrimony came through. (Shame less plug: HomeRoom Rings now at Acrimony BTW)l1100128l1100122

So come on down to the Richmond district and try  namu.  You won’t be disappointed. Its about $20 a person. I suggest the “Stone Pot Kobe Beef and Rice” or “The Diakon Burger”. Say hi to Misa, Dennis and Dave.l1100116l1100117

December 14th, 2009

Hi everyone,

I’ve been working on the website (as you can see by the right side). Learning my way around some coding/html and what not.

We are set to launch 2 blogs. Hopefully by Wednesday if not sooner.

One of the blogs is called “lunchbreak” it aims to let you into our lives; the people that are behind the company. People that i feel don’t get enough credit for their hard-work and contribution.

The 2nd blog is called “how to?”. Its  a lesson by lesson entry based on my personal opinion of what’s lacking in educating the next generation of creative entrepreneurs. One that i feel is missing from the world.
