HomeRoom Clothing is pleased to present its Holiday 2009 Collection, “American Rejects”!

HomeRoom has grown and matured as has its collection.  American Rejects features pieces that embody simple, nostalgic Americana.  From technically designed jackets to well-tailored oxfords, HomeRoom has graduated to the next standard.

Our Varsity Touchdown Jacket features a shawl collar, incredible detailing, and premium quality wool.  The Navy & The Officer Peacoat is our new take on a classic, with asymmetrical closures, and fine wool.  The Harvard & Yale Oxford is head of the class, with a sandwich collar, and it’s innovative pockets.  This season’s collection is truly an exemplar of the great American tradition.

We will be showing the collection at the Magic S.L.A.T.E. show at the Las Vegas Convention Center August 31-September 2, Booth #20350.  Contact Ms. Ivy Rosas if you have any questions or to book an appointment.

Prep Time

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Tradeshow season is upon us…and the weeks before are always the most trying.  Printing, designing, buying, waiting, crying…it all inevitably happens in preparation for that week of mingling, sharing, showing, talking, drinking, connecting, interjecting, and just plain hard working.  Tradeshows can best be described at bittersweet:  it’s inspiring to see both up and coming and established brands conjoining and collaborating, but with all play, comes the hard hard work that precedes it, or follows it, however you like to do business.

For me, I still have a neverending TO DO list, but it’s also exciting to know that I’ll be experiencing weather warmer than 50 degrees in a few days.  Vegas, here I come, whether I like it or not…

A History Lesson…

Friday, August 21st, 2009

This fall, work wear is the prevalent theme both on and off the runway.  Trend forecasters and fashion heads alike claim workwear to be the new prevailing trend.  Which makes most of us wonder, “where do these trends hail from?”  Concurrent with history, fashion repeats itself.  Fashion is cyclical, but as I’ve noticed, the interim between trends is shrinking in closer and closer.  Before you know it, the lifespan of a trend will be over before it hits the racks.  Style and trending is inevitably dynamic, and as it should be, but until that day comes, where designers are driven to insanity trying to keep up and change up, let’s relish in what’s granted today…for we will never know where we are headed if we don’t take note of where we’ve been.

 picture-171

Work wear today can be loosely identified by the boots (be it Timberlands, Red Wings, or any of the like), heavy denim, and rugged wool/woven shirts.  As we’ve seen, the plaid shirt is anything but surreptitious; everyone has at least one, or two or three, in every color way and every pattern.  History reveals that this acclaimed pattern came was birthed in the late 1800s, when the logging industry takes off in the US, centered in the Pacific Northwest.  In the 1900s, the mythological Paul Bunyan emerges, illustrating the trials of being an American lumberjack.  Following in suit, Pendleton introduces the wool plaid shirt…an all American staple.  Of course, to make a fashion a long burning success, the trend setters of society need to patronize such trends.  And that they did, beginning with Jack Kerouac, and Neal Cassidy, who in turn set the look for trend as masculine and rugged.

Of course, work wear wouldn’t be work wear without including the garbs of blue-collar men.  Newly inspired work wear takes it’s inspiration from the industrial revolution, inciting in the 1800s, where workers wore cotton, wool, and caps.  In the late 1800s, Levi Strauss was at the forefront of the denim brigade, creating denim workpants to sustain the laborious man during that day in age.   World War II’s predominant use of utilitarian uniforms also contributed to the growth of this trend.  The famous Irving Penn also popularized work wear through his 252 portraits of blue-collar workers in the 1950s.  And of course, we all realized work wear in the 1990s when Dickies, Carhartt, & Caterpillar premiered in almost every early 90s hip hop video.

So now you know.

I spent the morning researching some of the best quotes ever for the new HomeRoom business cards. I selected 3 quotes to be mixed in through out the business card backs.picture-29picture-28

quotes

Monday, August 17th, 2009

I was looking through my archive of quotes from notable designers and people of influence and i ran across this quote in an article from 1906 NY Times. I think its great and humble.

“To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not, rich; to listen to stars and birds, babes and sages, with open heart; to study hard; to think quietly, act frankly, talk gently, await occasions, hurry never; in a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common - this is my symphony.”

Design related.

Here are a few things that inspired me today…or sent me on a hour long mission to find a key tree for my hallway. I’m getting tired of misplacing my keys, glasses and wallet.

I need to know what time it is. I want to make my life feel like on constant film photo (check the bottom right corner of your film photos from the 90’s). Do you know what i’m talking about??

When Niko comes to SF and needs a place to crash. Boom!!! I got you a tent bro!

If you’re like me, your life depends on post it notes. I think its time i switch it up from day-bright to original flavor.

and this..this has nothing to do anything aboive. It it cool to look at though. I personally think the pepsi logo form the 1950’s is the best one. You can’t mess with coke…

P.S. if you like Coke. Try to get your hands on some Mexican Coke. The bottling factory in Mexico still uses real sugar rather than corn syrup.

Sorry, this is all pretty random. I should have some nice HomeRoom updates soon.

Last season of graphics…

…deserves a re-cap.

At the end of the day you realize that your work would be meaningless without those you care for in your life. HomeRoom pays tribute to those individuals who empower us to keep striving for our goals. The people that show us what craftsmanship is all about.

Life is full of critical decisions, which lay the groundwork for future plans. The object is to plan far enough ahead to stay in front of the curve, but close enough to be weary of past decisions. So be mindful of what path you take, so you don’t end up biting into a snake-hollowed apple.

This graphic pays its respects to those San Franciscan bike riders who’ve never heard of breaks and can make it across town faster then any four-wheel gas guzzler. picture-19
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer; you never know when someone is planning to hand you a bad apple. Just hope that the forewarning will be as big as this graphic.

picture-20

Without a good head on your shoulders you’re just a good pair of legs. Be mindful of your late night meandering, so you don’t end up with a cracked skull or a just as painful hangover.

The solar system is a vast space of mystery and with the elimination of Pluto as a planet a void was left within the interstellar stars. Rest assured that the newly discovered HomeRoom-Apple will keep a watchful eye on your night-time gallivanting.

Ever catch yourself awe struck? If you keep everything in perspective those once-in-a-lifetime opportunities wont slip-away; like the hypnotized dog in your Front-Yard. Eric Bailey helped us transform his famous oil painting into a HomeRoom graphic.

online store update

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

We need to make room in our shipping area. I’m convinced that having a summer tee shirt blow out will help us accomplish that… I threw in some cut and sew too.
