New Chapter

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

I got this email today from my girl.  I thought I’d share it with all of you. I’m not sure how she puts up with me being gone and never home?

“You’ll experience personal growth on the road to success.
All growth means change and change involves risk.
You grow because you struggle, learn and overcome your obstacles.

What happens to you is not as important as how you react to what happens.
Everything you’ll experience “good or bad” has value.

Difficulties in life are the things that show you what you are.
Trouble is the common denominator of living.
It’s the great equalizer of life.

Only when you are no longer afraid will you begin to live”

Shoe sample: round one

shoes-012

I’ve been super busy here in LA working 14 hour days, for 6 days straight with Kanye West on his Clothing line Pastelle. In the mean time my first round of shoes came in and I am happy that the first sample looks this good. It usually takes 3 rounds of sampling before it comes out perfect. I look forward to the rest of the footwear line developing.

Remember the time…

Friday, June 26th, 2009

I thought it only be appropriate that I commemorate one of the greatest (if not the greatest) pop icon of all time. It came as a shock to me, as it probably did around the world—how could Michael Jackson be gone? He seemed ageless, as if he would always be there, no matter how old we got.

Being brought up in the eighties, I grew up amongst what I believe were his best years. Of course, the classics still reign, but the era of Thriller, and Off the Wall  kills it,  hands down. I remember dropping anything I was doing once I heard an MJ song and ran to the t.v. just to watch a glimpse of his music videos. (He always had the best videos, by the way).

I think the resonating chord that strikes unanimously is that Michael Jackson has to be the MOST famous person to ever live. Japanese folks who are in their 70s know him. Tweens from Honolulu know him. Your pastor, your dentist, your urologist, your mom, and your dog all know him. How many people in this world/lifetime have made such an imprint? Makes you think. and makes you work harder. Amazing things can be done.

HELLO LA!

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

This is going to be a busy week.

Houses in LA make me want to move here. In San Francisco this would be a  5 million dollar home easily.  I wonder how many people read the blog that are residents of Los Angeles. Reach out.

What a week it has been and will be.

Its been nonstop working since last monday. no rest, barely any food, and no worries. I don’t mind it at all.  If i didn’t need to sleep, i would do it for 24 hours a day.

I’m taking off to LA later today to get my client work done. One of my clients is an action sports company that is on their way to— HUGER. Its fun to work with other creative minds to help inspire and add innovation to their already successful formulas. Nothing like stepping out of fashion garments and into action sports garments to keep me on my toes. After my all day meeting on Wednesday, I have one of the biggest meetings of my life. I have been working towards this opportunity for 3 years now and am excited to see what it holds. The sample below is being made for Purist and that important meeting! My lucky shirt.

(the low profile windsor collar) The shape of this colar is great for two things, giving the neck a longer look and being one of the few people in this world to have a colar like this.l1080293

The utility pocket is still not finished. However, when it is done…you will be able to stick a water bottle in there if need be. All the while it will look flushed against the breast like a normal pocket.

Luis one of the editors at hypebeast.com spent the day working out of the HomeRoom office. Luis used to intern here at HomeRoom. He was telling me how the homeroom way of constantly re-doing tasks until its perfected, has helped him excel in what he is currently doing. We love Luis and know that he is on his way to the top…

Color’s, color’s????

Friday, June 19th, 2009

After 100’s of colorways it has been reduced down to a few.  Now to reduce it to 3…hard decisions ahead….Then to go through hundreds of leathers, canvases, and wools.

I give it a week before we have the finished product. We work quick this time of year.

This is not the design for our bags, just a color mock. The HomeRoom bags are simply complex.
