I haven’t had an overly opinionated blog in a long time and it’s bothering me. Is there anything I can do about it? …sure
In this world your labeled as a “Hater” soon as you have a thoughtful opinion of any kind that attacks an issue. Personally I don’t care, I have no one to please but myself so, on this note…
Corporations market research departments are zeroing in on streetwear and I think the value of our culture is being watered down.
Stores that are carrying Sean John, Roca Weat and the FUBU like brands have been taking out excessive loans to survive. The word has gotten to them “that streetwear is what their consumers want”….wait!!!
How has the average urban consumer heard of streetwear? How has demand for it in the urban markets hit an all time high?
Urban Trendsetters have Discovered Streetwear.
(one of many EXAMPLES)
Talib Kweli- Without a doubt one of the most intelligent and righteous poets in the history of hip-hop (my top 5 emcees of all time). Talib has turned to David Gensler (read about David, he is one of the reasons streetwear exists, one of the reasons for this Mash culture.) for the identity of his “blacksmith” record label
It seems like the blend of urban and streetwear is much more apparent on the east coast, where on the west coast its non existent..almost.
I can say that many Urban stores that used to carry Sean John, Roca Wear and the FUBU types, have changed there names and went on a street wear buying frenzy.
This is amazing for business, but “streetwear” doesn’t have the same meaning anymore. The originality of talented street inspired designers has been overtaken and mass produced… It was inevitable
Since that is the case. I can only say that HomeRoom is a “street inspired contemporary brand” that focuses on the immaturity of when you enter HomeRoom through our graphics and the slight maturity that you posses when you graduate HomeRoom. This is why our graphics are youthful and our cut and sewn remains more mature and post technical.
I can’t say anything more then that. That’s our originality, that’s what we bring to the table.
We can make anything from jewelry, furniture, cars, and of course hoodies. That can never be mass produced.
Much love to everyone grinding it out in the spirit of a designers integrity.
Meet Bugs Bunny… I have to say somehting
But, the food in NYC is just as good. This little spot that made me and Omar (common wealth) take off our hats called Cafeteria is a great late night spot in NY. On 7th ave and 17th st. to be exact right around the corner from where i live. I suggest the mac and cheese and eggs Benedict, or if your feeling like an experiment, try the FRIED chicken SALAD.
I did all of this in 24 hours! Without drugs.
Stopped by The ATL SHAWTY!!!! picked me up some Rhine Stoned Out AF1’s and Tall Tees. Said wasup to San Francisco Native and One of HomeRooms founders NIKO VILLAMOR! or as i call him Doma
The Said wasup to San Francisco
Then got on a Virgin America Planes to JFK aka NYC.
Let me say one thing. I will never fly anything but Virgin America Domestically again!..unless they don’t fly to my destination…(they need to work on having more destinations.)
